Commercial excavation + civil sitework · Fort Wayne
Excavation.Utilities.Grade.
BD Excavation, LLC bids commercial earthwork, underground utilities, grading, building pads and stone base — as individual scopes or one coordinated package.
01 Before the equipment moves
Built around
the civil package.
A useful bid starts with the plans, the geotechnical report and the work actually being requested — not a generic sitework checklist.
Civil drawings, geotechnical report and addenda read before a quantity is built.
Written inclusions, exclusions, assumptions and alternates.
Access, grade, material movement and adjacent trades.
Direct field leadership and a clean trade handoff.
02 Scope index
Bid the work
you need.
Every civil set calls for a different mix. Review each scope on its own, then send the plans that match the work.

03 Bid clarity
Know what is
in the number.
The proposal names what is included, what is excluded and what is priced as unit work, so a project team can lay it against the civil set and close the gaps before mobilization instead of after.
Written inclusions and exclusions on every proposal.
Undercut, stabilization and engineered fill quoted as unit work on actual field quantity.
Alternates separated so they can be accepted or dropped cleanly.
Drawing conflicts raised before the work starts, not after.
04 Direct line
The people pricing it stay close to the people building it.

Common questions
What contractors ask first.
What does BD Excavation actually self-perform?
Earthwork and grading, storm and sanitary sewer, water and fire service to the building stub, building pads, aggregate base, site drainage, erosion control, clearing and demolition. Asphalt paving and concrete flatwork are excluded on every proposal — BD Excavation provides stone and grade only.
What area do you work in?
Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana, including Allen, DeKalb, Whitley, Steuben, Noble and LaGrange counties. Work outside that radius is considered on a project-by-project basis.
How are unsuitable soils and undercut handled in your bid?
They are excluded from the base bid and quoted as unit-rate work billed on actual field quantity under the geotechnical engineer's direction. That keeps the base number clean and it means a soils surprise becomes a measured change order rather than a dispute.
Are you bonded and insured?
Yes. Certificates of insurance are issued on request, and bonding is available where the project requires it. Send the requirements with the bid invitation.
What do you need to put a number together?
The civil drawings, the geotechnical report, the bid form and any addenda. A grading sheet and a boring log are the two documents that move the number most, and a bid built without them carries stated assumptions instead.
Do you work directly for owners, or only for general contractors?
Both. Most commercial work comes through general contractors. Driveways, ponds, drainage and clearing are usually direct for property owners.
